VANCOUVER, BC – Callinan Mines Ltd. and joint venture partner Bell Resources Corporation have located a strong geophysical conductor on their Fox River nickel-copper project in Northern Manitoba, east of Gillam. The geophysical grid was cut to test one of several airborne magnetic anomalies on the Fox River Claims.
A horizontal loop survey conducted by Sigfrid J.D. & Assoc. Ltd. of Flin Flon, MB has measured a very strong, flat lying conductive body that is upwards of 600 m across. A pulse EM survey was then carried out by Crone Geophysics of Mississauga, ON, confirming this unusual occurrence with a very strong response, including a step response. Crews have extended the grid lines to cover the entire anomaly and ascertain its length and width in a larger survey area.
“This is a very interesting target,” remarked Callinan Geophysical consultant Mo Prew, a seasoned and conservative geophysical interpreter. “It appears to be horizontal and extremely conductive, as well as extensive in area.”
The geophysical response in this latest survey is similar and compares favourably to one used as an example in the published paper “Geophysics in Mineral Exploration: Fundamentals and Case Histories of Ni-Cu Sulphide Deposits with examples from Voisey’s Bay” by Stephen J. Balch.
Callinan acquired its ground in Fox River because of the size and quality of the magnetic and electromagnetic anomalies that occur in favourable geology. The Fox River Belt is widely believed to be a potential host of an extension to the Thompson Nickel Belt.
Diamond drilling of this target will take place as soon as conditions allow.
