VANCOUVER — The initial diamond drilling program on Callinan’s CAL property, located between Snow Lake, MB and Thompson, MB, has encountered several zones of massive sulphides, containing chalcopyrite mineralization hosted by peridotite.
Five holes were drilled totaling approximately 1,000 meters. The peridotite hosted sulphides exhibit both chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite mineralization in variable concentrations. Core is currently being split, logged and sent to Acme Labs in Vancouver for assay.
This property was previously drilled in the 1960s by prior owners but only limited assays are available which were filed as assessment work. References in the assessment reports indicate up to 0.9% nickel and up to 3.78% copper in sulphides hosted by peridotite. (Source: Manitoba Government Assessment Files).
The current drilling was conducted within an area 140 by 150 meters. The mineralization is shallow, two holes having been collared in sulphides within 10 meters from surface.
This mineralization appears to be folded and faulted, adding the possibility of mineralized zones existing beyond the zone intersected to date by drilling. Callinan’s President and CEO Mike Muzylowski has stated that “Today’s metal prices have made the mineralization from previous and current drilling potentially important. Included in the current drilling results is the intersection of previously unknown zones, adding to the implied possibility of an expanded project. After assays are received, metallurgical tests on the material may be warranted.”
The program at the Cal Claims is ongoing. Geology teams are designing follow-up drilling to be implemented pending assay results.
